A dog ball might be simple, but there are a surprising number of fun games you can play with it. From fetch to hide-and-seek: with these 5 ideas, you can ensure extra exercise and challenge.
1. Fetch
The classic remains fun. Throw the ball and let your dog bring it back. Start with short distances and gradually make it a little more difficult. This keeps fetch fun and manageable.
2. Find the ball
Have your dog wait and hide the dog ball somewhere in the house or garden. Then give the command to search. Your dog has to use their nose, providing not only physical but also mental stimulation.
3. Roll the ball
You don't always have to throw a dog ball. Roll it across the ground and let your dog chase it. This game is especially useful indoors or for dogs with whom you want to play a bit more calmly.
4. Hide-and-seek with the ball
Show your dog that you have the ball and then hide somewhere in the house with it. Call your dog and let them find both you and their favorite toy. A fun game where focus, searching, and playing come together.
5. Practice the ‘drop it’ command
A dog ball is also useful during training. Let your dog take the ball and then practice the ‘drop it’ command. As soon as they let go of the ball, you can reward them by throwing it again. This makes listening part of the game.
Choose a safe dog ball
Always choose a ball that fits your dog's size. The ball must be large enough not to disappear completely into their mouth. Additionally, check dog toys regularly for cracks and other damage.
Tip from Baloe 🐾
Don't throw in the same direction every time. Rolling, hiding, and searching suddenly make a plain dog ball a lot more exciting!
